Agenda

Introduction of the FSEC Global Policy Report

The Food System Economics Commission is an independent academic commission that was charged with drawing on the best scientific analysis from economics and across the social sciences to present lessons and options for policymakers to help find solutions for a food system transformation.

Our current food system is broken. In economic terms, it means that the hidden costs of the negative social, environmental and health consequences cost the world more than 10 trillion USD each year. This is a tax on both current and future generations, and hinders the transitions we need in order to achieve a health-enhancing, inclusive and environmentally sustainable future. Food systems – what do they cost us today? What benefits could they bring? How do we make change happen? The new FSEC Global Policy Report brings together world-leading economic experts to answer these crucial questions.

Introduction of the Integrarive Agriculture (JIA) Special Issue

——Transforming agri-food systems for multiple wins in nutrition, inclusion, and environment

The Agri-Food system is crucial in ensuring food security, health, nutrition, and environmental sustainability. Multiple-win measures, including changes in production structure and practices, transition in consumption behaviors and dietary choices, improvements in food value chains (storage, logistics, etc.), innovations in technology, agricultural policies and R&D investments, and many others, can not only increase the added-value of the food supply chain and improve the consumption of healthy and nutritious food, but also reduce negative environment impacts. Scholars from China and abroad have conducted extensive research in various fields such as resources and environment, agricultural products, nutrition and health, but few literatures have focused on practical issues such as how to balance the tradeoffs and synergies of food production and climate change, provide affordable food and healthy diets, and stabilize food supply with fair and open trade.

Under this context, this special focus of the Journal of Integrative Agriculture is to provide empirical evidence on multiple win strategies to achieve agri-food systems transformation. The issue comprises nine papers covering a wide array of topics aimed at improved nutrition, sustainability inclusion and continued efficiency or productivity improvement within the food system. We trust that these papers will enhance readers’ comprehension of how food system transformation can contribute to multiple dimensions of the food system's goals.
